About 18 months ago I deposited £2,000 into a casino based entirely on a "review" I found on Google. The review was glowing - 4.8 stars, detailed pros and cons, screenshots, the works. Six weeks later the site stopped processing withdrawals and disappeared.

That experience sent me down a rabbit hole. I started investigating how best bitcoin casino review sites actually work, and what I found was worse than I expected.

The affiliate problem

The overwhelming majority of online casino reviews are affiliate marketing. The site earns a commission when you sign up through their link. This doesn't automatically make them dishonest - but it creates an obvious conflict of interest.

The tell-tale signs of an affiliate-first review:

Every casino is rated 4.5+ stars

The "cons" section is padded with minor complaints like "no live chat in some languages"

The review links to the casino within the first two sentences

There's no mention of withdrawal complaints or licensing issues

The site has never published a negative review

If a review site has never said anything bad about a casino, it's not a review site. It's an ad.

What real reviews look like

The honest crypto casino reviews I've found - and there aren't many - share certain characteristics. They mention specific issues. They acknowledge that different players want different things. They cite sources for their claims. They update when things change.

They also tend to focus on the boring but important stuff: licensing, withdrawal processing times, complaint history, terms of service red flags. Not "this casino has a nice colour scheme."
